About 12 months ago somebody (me) posted the Best Season Ever. The genreal consensus was Season One with Season Four in a photo for second.

Since then we have had an entire FIFTH season! Cool yeah? So I feel I should do this poll again to see if our opinions were changed by the season.

Included a bonus Worst Season Ever just to get some perspective.

I once again voted for ONE as the best with the worst this time unfortunately being TWO. They is all good tho.

Three my favorite, two probably my least favorite.

Wow unanimous hate for season two (after 3 votes - mine included). What was it about this season that sucked so hard? The telephone acting from Rodriguez? The mis-writing of John? The competition from Heroes?

But it did give us the awesomeness that is ... MR EKO. Still my favourite character in the shows six year history! You go Adewale! Come back this year pleez.

I definitely don't hate any season, but two definitely has the most differing feel out of all the others in terms of settings and characters. The hatch, while I still feel was very necessary, was a huge setting in season 2 and deviated from the usual jungle feel of the island. The story of the tailies meanwhile took too much from the original cast in retrospect, especially considering the fact that most of them ended up being killed off before things really took off mythology-wise.

Locke wasn't mis-written by the way, I don't think that's an accurate way to describe it when there was an acknowledged reason and purpose for his change in philosophies.

Yeah, I was a little miffed at the lack of Tailies longevity. The only Tailie that survived was the most uninteresting of em, Bernard. Seemed like a waste of screen-time to even include any of them. Thank god the female viewers love Desmond, I guess... :P

But I feel kinda the same way about The Others. Poor Tom. Poor Pickett. Did they have to be executed so soon?

Somebody had to be last. Doesn't mean the season sucked by any means. For instance, the worst Colts season in the past six years has been a 12-4 record. That's their worst record, but does that mean that record sucks? HELL NO. If I were to assign NFL records to Lost seasons, here's how I'd do it:

Season 1: 14-2
Season 2: 11-5
Season 3: 15-1
Season 4: 13-3
Season 5: 14-2

Season 3 was balls for the most part. When it was good it was great but my god was there loads of filler in there. In fact (after quickly reviewing the episode list) I'd go as far as to say that nearly half of that season was crap. The first episodes up until Flashes certainly did. Sure it paid off with the second half of the season but overall it can't be classed as the best

Ah yes. EXPOSE, one of the most blatant fillersodes in the history of adventure television. But it did feature Billy Dee Williams. Now, why didn't they make Billy Dee an Other? How awesome would that have been?

Hey now, whats going on with Season Four? No votes either way. Twas rather popular last poll.

I totally disagree there. I think the first six episodes of season 3 are great and merely suffer from the weight put on them to deliver more than they did simply due to the fact that big break was looming afterwards. The "mini-season" idea was the failure there, but the episodes they produced I think more than stand up today. The season premiere wasn't really huge on the reveals, but on a characterization level its probably one of if not my favorite Jack episode. The plot thread of Hydra island dangled longer than it could have should they had known their end date before season 3 even started filming and knew their pacing more, but I think for the most part the first six get a bad rap because people knew it was all they'd get for months and wanted lots of reveals that just weren't there. Not saying that's not understandable, though. In my mind though they're for the most part quality episodes. Flashes Before Your Eyes is widely considered the episode that jump started the show back on track, but for me it never really left the track so I consider it more the episode where the mythology really kick started into the forefront.

1) He can't act.

2) His face is blown up worse than Mark McGuire's.

3) He'd charge way more than he's worth per episode.

I can't speak for others (no pun intended, shockingly), but season 4 is definitely right near the top for me. I have a hard time picking from 1, 4, and 5. I thought all three of those were completely fantastic. Of course, 4 and 5 wouldn't have been what they were without seasons 2 and 3, which certainly had great moments, but they were definitely set-up and were burdened with the filler problem that was solved by the end of season 3.

No pun? I don't believe that for a minute, sir. And you know what? I haven't even seen Season Five...

Did I just hear a "gasp"? Don't stress! I've been doing a marathon for the last two months. I'm starting season 4 right now. (well in a few days. i want to watch some other stuff first)

I just kept missing it this year, so I says to meself "**** it, I'll wait for the DVD." And now the DVD is here. I did see Jughead on television which was a nice ep. And some other episode with Sawyer becoming a Dharma jobber and the chick from 24, which wasn't so good. I'm looking forward to "the whole shebang".

Yes. Season 3 is the underdog of the series.

And Expose is a masterpiece! The writers took characters that they admittedly failed to introduce and made us believe they were dead the entire episode, only to have them BURIED ALIVE at the end. Nikki and Paulo's death was one of the most epic, satisfactory fanboy treats the show has offered. They were essentially winking at the camera the whole episode.

I'd say Season 4 is my least favorite, but still amazing. We already knew its trajectory from the start (they're gonna get off the island!), so it didn't leave room for many surprises, though "The Constant" is one of best episodes of television ever.

Yeah, Expose is underrated. Basil happened to be in town the week it first aired and he watched it with me and some other Lost fans. He'd never seen Lost before and he came away from this first ever viewing of the series blown away talking about this was an awesome ****ing show. It doesn't get any better than that.

I also think season 3 gets a bad rap because of Stranger In A Strange Land. An episode so hated that even Lindelof admitted that it shouldn't have been filmed, lol. Now THAT one was filler (though I still to this day insist that they'll get back to at least the meaning of the tattoo in regards to Jack). It also didn't help that, inexplicitly, ABC decided it'd be a good idea to make a promo for that episode promising answers to huge questions. Of all episodes they choose that one for that promise. Idiots. That's the one episode that season that I think holds up less well on multiple viewings. Really put the brakes on the momentum Not In Portland and Flashes Before Your Eyes provided.

Season 4: 13-3
Season 5: 15-1

You raise a good point about the promos, but for me personally I still like the episode for one reason: Jack screaming and being a dick. I LOVE Angry Jack. And we get loads of him in this episode.

Screaming:
Cindy: She wants to know how Ana Lucia's doing.
Jack: Are you serious?
Cindy: What?
Jack: (Yelling) If you've got something to watch, Cindy, go watch it!! Go!!

Being a dick:
Jack: You've got a very serious infection, Ben. That infected tissue needs to be reinsized, debrided and you need to be very closely monitored from here on out. There might be nerve damage or any other number of complications. You might not walk again.
Ben: Your bedside manner leaves something to be desired, Jack.
Jack: Well, then it's too bad you're stuck with me.

And:
Jack: You want me to help [Ben] again?
Juliet: Yes.
Jack: (Laughing) Are you sure about that, Juliet?
Juliet: Yes, I'm sure.
Jack: And this is because he said that he would let you go home.
Juliet: No. No. It's because I'm in trouble.
Jack: Trouble for ...
Juliet: I just killed someone. It's why they put me in your room.
Jack: Who?
Juliet: It's complicated.
Jack: Well, then, let me simplify it for you. I'm not going to help him. And I'm not going to help you.

And:
Isabel: Is that true, Jack? Did Juliet ask you to kill Ben? (Jack does not answer) The question is simple: did Juliet ask you to kill Ben?
Jack: No. No, I was lying. I would have done anything to get my friends out. And, turning you people against each other was my best chance of creating chaos.
Isabel: Why are you lying for her, Jack?
Jack: I'd like to go back to my cage, now.

And FINALLY calling these bitches out on their ****ing hypocrisy bull****:
Jack: You just helped me save [Ben's] life. If you're gonna kill me, please, at least show me the respect of not calling it "moving."
Tom: Now, why would we kill you?
Jack: Because, you're done with me.
Tom: What kind of people do you think we are, Jack?
Jack: Oh, I don't know, Tom. The kind of people that would take a pregnant woman, hang Charlie from a tree, would drag our people out of the jungle, would kidnap children! That's the kind of people I think you are.

That last might be the most awesome speech in the series. YEAH! NOW WHAT, bitches! AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Who's the good guys now, mother****ers! SUCK IT!

Don't get me wrong, I fast forward through all the flashback crap until Jack gets all creepy with the tattoo babe at the very end because that's intense, but the island stuff is as strong as we ever see Jack and I love it.

I gave season 4 my vote for best season. Solid episodes all around, including the greatest episode of the series - Desmond to the Future.

I gave Season 2 my vote for worst season. While it's not BAD by any stretch, there is a whole lot of stuff in there that I just don't care about. The first episode and the last episode in that season are great great great. But in between... eeeeehhh.
Looks like today we're clockin' out early.

I loved season 2 while it was new, Desmond and the hatch gave so much info, and the talies were facinating, but once all the tailes, except Bernard, were killed off, all their stories seemed so unimportant . . . . .. but I cant help but think they are important . . . .. . I detest the filler idea . . . .. . . I know it exists, but to the extent of most of a season devoted to them for no good reason to the end result . .. . . . that's a hell of alot of filler .. . . You know, Nikki and Paulo were so minor, but the following season their pics were on the cover of the dvd set, and I have wondered why . . . . . . . I would say seasons 1 and 5 have been my favs . . . . .

That's a fair point. Of all the seasons, the first two thirds of Season Two is hard to watch for the reasons you just gave. We're following a lot of people who drew the short straw as far as life expectancy.

Yeah it pisses me off that Ana Lucia and Eko died. What a waste of time. What the hell? They wanted windows for their movie careers? Naive fools. What have they done since that was bigger than our favourite ABC hit series LOST?

I love Mr Eko. STILL my favourite character in the whole series. Imagine his sizable ass handing it too Ben and Bogus-John in the later seasons! The differance he coulda made in season 3 ... season 5 ... the whole picture! Goddamn you Adewale, why did you quit??

I never cared for Libby. She's ugly and her character sucks. Unfortunate that there was never any payoff with Hugo. But really, I don't give a **** about her.

Here's what the two morons left Lost to do:

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje:

"Monk" .... Samuel Waingaya (1 episode, 2009)

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) .... Heavy Duty

Seriously! Look on IMDB yourself! That is ALL this mother****er has done since he left Lost! What the ****?!?

Michelle Rodriguez:

Battle: Los Angeles (2011) (filming) .... Corporal Adriana Santos

Machete (2010) (post-production) .... Luz

Trópico de sangre (2009) (post-production) .... Minerva Mirabal

Avatar (2009) .... Trudy Chacon

Avatar: The Game (2009) (VG) (voice) .... Trudy Chacon

Los Bandoleros (2009) (V)

Fast & Furious (2009) .... Letty

The car movie sucked tons of ASS, plus she was only in the first ten minutes or so. (if you're worried about Fast and Furious spoilers, you REALLY need to get a ****ing life) I'll give her Avatar, but the fact is that movie has been in development for a decade and they've been shooting for a couple years so Cameron could have worked her in no problem. I mean, Zoe Saldana managed to work in seven other movies (including the new Star Trek) AND a half dozen episodes of Six Degrees during the Avatar shooting schedule so it was doable. I don't know what the **** Los Bandaid was but it couldn't have been a too demanding schedule, huh?

So the moral of the story is both actors are morons.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje + Terry O'Quinn = Did not get along. That is why he left. As for Michelle, she had that DWI or DUI, whatever it was. I think that did her in a tad. But, and I may be a little wrong here, she wanted to leave as well.

THINK OF THE SHOW'S FANS, YOU TWO!!! WE LIKED YOUR CHARACTERS! YOU SHOULD"VE WORKED IT OUT/STAYED/WHATEVER!!

Both actors negotiated only being on the show for one season before they ever signed on to do the show, so her decision to only be on for a year predated her DWI by almost a full year.

I'm pretty sure Eko would have continued on as a character had Triple A and Terry O'Quinn got along.

Again, before Triple A ever met Terry, Triple A already had it in his contract that he was only going to be on the show for one season so that had nothing to do with it. In fact, when the show runners came to Triple A near the end of Season 2 and asked if he could come back for a handful of Season 3 eps before they killed him off because they just didn't have story time left to kill him off in Season 2, Triple A generously agreed to accommodate them despite all the problems he was having with Terry.

Don't get me wrong, he's still a moron for wanting to leave, but it had nothing to do with castmate issues.

Didn't somebody in AAA's family also die in between seasons? I seem to recall some sort of family death or sickness that made him want to spend more time at home, not in Hawaii. I could have some details wrong, but I am pretty sure I remember that being an issue.

I hadn't heard anything about that, but that would explain why he's only had two roles since Lost.

I just did a little Googling and found that both of his parents died that summer. I found it in an EW article that didn't mention it as THE reason he left, but mentioned it as one of the many offscreen issues he was having at the time.

The DWI thing is pretty much a myth. Like Dex said, Rodriguez had signed on explicitly for just one year, and the reason that Libby died with her is because Ana Lucia was so disliked by the fan base they felt they needed a more likeable character to also go down in order to give the event more punch. Libby's character just had the bad fortune of falling into the category of both being well-liked, while at the same time being the most expendable out of characters who mattered to fans.

I disagree with the thought process though, as I think the cold-blooded nature of this scene would have packed plenty of punch even if it was just Ana Lucia. Take out the Libby shooting, and Michael shooting Ana Lucia is still probably one of the most chilling scenes Lost has filmed. Plus they ended up painting themselves into a corner by not being able to reacquire Cynthia Watros's services in future seasons to wrap up the mystery she had going on with Hurley. Certainly they couldn't have foreseen the strike in season 4 which ruined their last shot at getting her back, but had they not killed her off in the first place it wouldn't have been an issue to begin with.

Couldn't she still conceivably have a role in Season 6?

I agree with them not really needing to kill off Libby, Jason. This is the rare case where them reading the internet hurt the show. In the past before the internet without that instant feedback they'd have gone with their first instinct and been right to do so.

As far as getting Libby back, if she's on a competing network they might not let her even be a guest star. I heard recently that CBS was NOT going to let Nestor come back for even one guest spot on Lost as long as he was the lead of whatever horrible ****ing show he went to. Fortunately that crap got cancelled and he was released from his stifling contract. Last season would have SUCKED without Richard Alpert. Oh, sure, they could have run some new second in command past us and given us a good reason for it but it would have sucked.
