the term and demographic

The term emo is pretty old at this point and I know we've had discussions about it before here but I still found it pretty funny.

"I was an elf and every now and then other characters would stop and say 'you are an elf.' If I had chosen to be a human, presumably they'd say 'hello you are an ***hole.' I'd like to see a Tolkeinesque fantasy where the humans aren't the biggest pricks in the room. I mean a lot of my friends are humans and some of them are alright. "

Yeah the kids that subscribe to that whole way of though are pretty obnoxious. What's funny is how the news stations are making it seem like the demographic is so dangerous. The honesty is all demographics/fads are ****ing dangerous under the right conditions. It only takes one troubled individual to negatively slant the perspective and create the stereotype for a select group of people.

^ Go down the road, not across the street.

The problem is that some emos really are just overemotional people....and the people around them laugh. Not to sound like the dumbass I am, but I was vaguely emo before the whole emo thing even caught on back home. Then you get the label. It's really stupid.

And while we're on the subject:

I see nothing wrong with identifying yourself with some sort of sub-culture. It's just a way that teens and early 20's types relate to one another. Feeling as if you "belong" to something that has a lot of peers you can relate to can be a pretty powerful coping mechanism that can help you get through life.

While I do feel that some of the stuff that the Emo's (or whatever term is in vouge) do is silly, I won't be the one to ridicule them for it. We've all got our quirks.

i don't think it's its being a subculture that's the problem; it's the fact that they all claim to be individuals and that their appearance reflects that.

...

yeah.

Gee, I wonder if a Leper feels the same way.

The only reason they don't slit their wrists is because they don't have hands.
