--> The grim tidings:

Quote

News Corp. Deputy Chairman Chase Carey opened the B&C OnScreen summit to discuss where he sees the business going. “It’s time to start getting paid for broadcast content online,” he said. Carey said that while everyone cites the infamous Jeff Zucker quip that “We’re exchanging analogue dollars for digital dimes,” the industry continues to do exactly that. The strategy needs to be more than just fighting piracy and Google, he says.

“I think a free model is a very difficult way to capture the value of our content. I think what we need to do is deliver that content to consumers in a way where they will appreciate the value,” Carey said. “Hulu concurs with that, it needs to evolve to have a meaningful subscription model as part of its business.”

That sure worked like a charm for Napster!

Hulu, it was nice knowing you.

Exactly. They should have been happy with ad revenue, lord knows they must have made enough on ads the way everybody here was tapping that ass.

Hulu is a great service that isn't worth payment. Especially for people who already pay for cable, which includes many, if not most, internet users.

They are probably going to make a pay service, probably like 20-50 a year to get either live broadcasts of new shows, or first access to shows before non payers. Id pay something for hulu if I got some better services then what they offer.

Yeah they were careful to say that it wasn' going to be paying for the model that exists now. My guess is that new content will require money, and older content will still be free.

Keep in mind that Hulu is essentially just a shell. They host SOME content, but for the most part they are re-hosting content that is free elsewhere. Everything they do for NBC for example can also be found on NBCs site.

I love Hulu's ability to troll different websites and collect all the tee vee shows into one convenient website. I can get almost all the CBS shows (CBS is Disney owned so frankly I'm freaked by that), USA Network, travel and home and garden along with a little science. I don't know if I'm willing to pay for that. But then I am not even willing to purchase a tee vee. I watch everything on computer.

I lost all interest in Hulu when they decided to block the PS3's web browser. ****'em.

well that seems like dumb logic. The more people that use the site and view its commercial content the better I would think.

Just enter a search for your favorite TV show and voila...links to streaming episodes. It's mostly pirated, but it's FREE. :)
