* Season 9's theme is "Clark's darkest hour."
* Look for a season-long love triangle with Clark, Lois, and Red-Blue Blur.
* Chloe, still grieving over Jimmy's death, will immerse herself in all things Watchtowerish. Peterson also hinted at some tension for Chlark when she realizes she's no longer content just being his sidekick.
* We'll find out why Clark isn't flying in a scene with him and Jor-El (the returning Terence Stamp) in the season premiere.
* Footage of Brian Austin Green as Metallo will be unveiled at tomorrow's Con panel. As of now, he's on board for two episodes, but Peterson says they're hopeful he'll do more.
* The episode they're currently shooting (either 9.02 or 9.03) focuses on Oliver's downward spiral.
* Battlestar Galactica's Alessandro Juliani will reprise his role as Dr. Emil Hamilton for several episodes this season.
* Story-wise, Peterson is not approaching this season as Smallville's last.*
* I saved the best for last: Peterson recently had dinner with Michael Rosenbaum. Interpret as you like.

Season nine will be following what will be the last stage of what Clark does before he become Superman, Peterson says. But they are not approaching this as the last season of the show. In fact, they hope to keep it going for a while – despite the fact the show is moving to Fridays.
“We came into this season with 100 ideas, we have a lot of stories,” Souders says. “The studio wants to satisfy the fans. They are not going to tell us in episode 21 ‘Let’s end it.’ They are going to give it time.”
Among some of the things we will see in season nine is Clark training with Jor-El as he struggles with his identity.
We will also see in the series premiere for season nine the show explore why Clark doesn’t fly and the current look he has.
“We will see a different side of Clark,” Peterson says. “This will be the final stage of deciding what he wants to be.”
We will also see an episode in season nine where Lois has a vision of the future and just what that future will be. In addition, we will also be seeing Roulette and Metallurgy this season.
As far as Lex Luthor goes? While the producers have chatted with Michael Rosenbaum, they can’t find the time to work it out with his schedule. So, nothing is panning out right now in terms of him coming back.
Blue says that already in the production process he has said the classic line “Come and kneel before Zod” as it was said in SUPERMAN 2. However, Blue admits, “It’s not as cool as Terrence Stamp … yet.”
Blue says his costume at the moment is army fatigues and that he is akin to the leader of a fascist party. “When I become General Zod the costume will change,” he says.
So far already this season, Blue says, Zod has chopped off someone’s head and he will eventually have the powers of Superman but right now he’s trying to figure out why he doesn’t have them right now.
While this is the same Zod that took over Lex Luthor’s body a few season ago, it is a younger version than the one that was pulled out from the Phantom Zone.
Joining Major/General Zod in season nine of SMALLVILLE will be the other characters from SUPERMAN 2 including his future wife, Ursa, and the mute Non, although Blue says Non will talk in SMALLVILLE.
During the season will discover the history Zod has with Jor-El and that while Zod has no super powers before he came to Earth with his army, he promised he would have powers when they got there, Blue says.
Blue has signed on for two seasons of SMALLVILLE and says he will be in 16 of the 22 episodes this year. So plan on a Zod heavy season fans.
Meanwhile, Erica Durance is promising a bit of a love triangle involving Oliver Queen, Clark and Lois. “We will see just how much they depend on each other this season,” Durance says. We will also see the Queen is regretting the decision to end things with Lois.
Durance jokes that when she goes on set she says “Get ready to be smitten boys.”
