Nothing from this train wreck has inspired any confidence in it's production and I believe Robert Zemeckis is past his prime as a filmmaker. But I really like this international poster:

Unfortunately that's just not enough to save this picture for me. And it's sad that this release will overshadow The Princess and the Frog in the winter.

And I could have sworn there was a thread in the forum for the film but nothing showed up through the search.

Unless it's starring Mickey Mouse, I don't care about any versions of a Christmas Carol.

Ah, it was a tradition to watch the program to start that holiday season and I remember getting upset over Tiny Tim's death in the cartoon. It was pretty effective stuff.

Jim Carry will fail at this. My standard is the one with Patrick Stewart.

I have always been a big fan of the 70's version with Albert Finney as Scrooge and Alec Guiness as Jacob Marley. Plus I love the song Scrooge sings in that version "I hate people" and I tend to sing it at Christmas when I get annoyed at the holiday hoop la.

Here is the clip. Albert really blew me away as a kid with this version. He looks really pissed off for real. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=qPISoY4AOLA

Love that version too. I like the song "Thank you very much" he sings unawares at his own funeral best

Oh yeah. I laugh my ass off at that scene as he simply is so self absorbed still that he doesn't get it that he is dead and he is thinking people like him.

Wally Q it is out on DVD. I bought it a couple of years ago. Memorize the song and sing it when you have had enough of Christmas and your loved ones will get the messege that they need to leave or chill out. When my wife hears me sing it she gives me the look but then goes and quiets things down just enough for me to get through the holidays.

Yes I can become a Scrooge during the holidays but my patience only goes so far before I would rather be Scrooge than be jolly when there is no reason to be jolly in a unjolly moment. I hate it when people act so fake during the holidays which bugs me the most.

"Thank you very much. Thank you very much. That's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me!"

That one is probably my favorite one to watch. Although the Alistair Sim one is the standard & the one I watch every year as tradition. I also love the Mr. Magoo one & the Mickey Mouse one.
Evil Empire fan since 1974.

I'm not sure if it was the Albert Finney one or the Alastair Sim one, but one of them had a scene with the Christmas Future ghost that scared me pretty bad when I was a kid. I think it must be the one with Sim since I don't recall it having any musical numbers.

I'm skeptical on the new one but I'm willing to give it a shot. I thought Beowulf looked terrible and it managed to somewhat exceed my expectations. Not thrilled with the idea of Carrey but I guess we'll see what he does with it.
Ummm....I don't know what this means....but a giant iceberg just winked at me.

Jesus, this movie has to take the award for the most re-made/adapted.

Personally, I always default to Bill Murray's Scrooged.

I prefer the Cheerios commercial version.

This has been remade way too many times.

I agree, the Patrick Stewart version rules. It is far and away my favorite.

I also dig the fact that it links up the two versions of Dune via cast members, since Patrick Stewart was in David Lynch's Dune and Ian McNeice and Saskia Reeves were in the Sci-fi Channel version of Dune. All three of them appear in A Christmas Carol.

I saw a preview online in Italian just now. Why does this movie have to be animated? Was it too hard to shoot the movie live action with Jim Carrey in some nice makeup?

This is worse then expected. A quick Wikipedia look-up claims that this is performance capture ala Polar Express and Beuwulf.

Jim Carrey is not only playing Scrooge but all three ghosts too.

Gary Oldman (an otherwise excellant actor) is playing Marley, Cratchit, and Tiny Tim.

It's official, I will not be seeing this film ever, theater, DVD, or via any other technology...ever.

For anyone interested, Harry Knowles had a talk with Robert Zemeckis about what's gone down so far with the film and it sounds pretty interesting.

You can find the story here.

A quick search for a thread for this movie yielded no results, much to my surprise and disappointment. We saw this yesterday afternoon and I absolutely loved it. No matter what your favorite adaptation of this book may be, be it starring Patrick Stewart or Fred Flintstone, I'm pretty sure that this will top it.

It's "animated" in much the same way as Polar Express and Beowulf, but I really hate to call it true animation when it's pretty clear that the actors involved are supplying far more than just their voices. Even though there are a ton of different characters, it's really a two man show with Jim Carrey and Gary Oldman playing most of the parts. Gary Oldman is good as always, but this is actually one of the rare movies when Jim Carrey actually decides to act. Instead of doing some hokey and stereotypical impression, he actually does sound like a Victorian era old Englishman in his main roles.

If you do go see it, splurge a few bucks more for the 3D version. I've seen a lot of 3D movies in the past few years, but this one was absolutely my favorite. It looks absolutely gorgeous, and does so without resorting to any gimmickry.

I second everything he said about the film's surprising superiorityness. I'd only add that Cary Elwes and Robin Wright also have multiple roles, which makes this the closest we're likely ever to get to a true Princess Bride reunion.

I haven't seen it yet, but I know I'll enjoy this new Jim Carrey Disney version, as I've enjoyed every other version of A Christmas Carol I've ever seen. However, the standard to which I hold them all and my personal favorite since I was a kid is the made-for-TV version with George C. Scott as Scrooge. His captured the spirit of the book the most, I think.
