Christian Bale is cast in the reboot film for the Terminator franchise. Who he plays is unknown at this time.

Thoughts?

I've read rumors that say he is going to be John Connor during the human/machine war or a totally new character. I'm surprised he is even doing any role in this film. I guess they offered him a really big paycheck.

Three words: Batman versus Terminator

Four more words: Immense load of crap

Not that I think that's what's happening. Just the first thing that popped into my head upon reading this.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins

What an awful title.

Salvation? Are the terminators becoming extinct? They need to be rescued? Send in the messiah model.

So, a new movie and a TV series?

How long before someone runs to Feedback and suggests we create a Terminator forum? The pool starts now. I'm gonna guess July 17, 2008.

Perhaps I should finally unleash that T3 treatise.
But I won't do it without a positive one for the 1984 newage classic.

I think Bale bares more than just a slight resemblence to the "old" John Conner from T2.

After hearing about this, I came to see what you guys were saying about this project...but nobody's started about a thread about it! Shame on you for not providing me the ranting and raving I was anticipating. :nono:

So let's see...it's T4, which is controversial enough on its own...no Arnie, which may be good or bad depending on your viewpoint...directed by McG of Charlie's Angels fame, which is sure to incite fanboy riots...but then starring Christian Bale as John Connor, who carries some pretty weighty fanboy cred and is known for being picky about his roles. Release date set for May 22, 2009. Plot blurb indicates that it takes place after the nuking with Connor leading the resistance as they fight for survival against the machines.

So what's to make of this? Is it already hopeless? Is Bale selling out? Or has he seen something in this that has potential?
Ummm....I don't know what this means....but a giant iceberg just winked at me.

I think it's got potential. A war with Humans versus Machines. It worked well enough for Matrix Revolutions! :P

If anything, it'll be awesome watching it on BluRay.

With all said and done...

I think Bale as Connor could be pretty cool. My only problem with this project though is that it is apparently unrelated to the TV show. Not that the TV show is great, but that both the film and TV show will be playing to audiences at the same time. I hate when stuff like that happens. I guess it's like a "two masters" thing.

But aren’t all the parties involved acting as if T3 didn’t exist? That’s the impression I got but I may be wrong. I have to say, despite the fact that McG is involved (I’ve not seen one of his films and have no intentions to; however I do like Supernatural and will catch the OC in full at some point in the future), having Christian Bale gives credence to this franchise. Now if they can get Josh Brolin as a terminator, I’m definitely in.

That's a really specific wish for a casting there, col.

Why Josh Brolin?

Because that's who McG reportedly wants for the role.

From what I've read in interviews, T3 is now considered to be an alternate timeline from the TV show. I assume, then, that T4 will exist in the same timeline as T3 rather than in the show's.

Depending on your frame of reference, it's either just like Star Trek and the Mirror Universe, or it's just like the regular X-Men and the "Days of Future Past" X-Men.

I guess Christian Bale is carving out a niche reviving old franchises.

Christian Bale as:

Rambo
Rocky
Jar-Jar Binks
Superman
The Punisher
Spawn

Was he overlooked for the Star Trek movie?

Well, if it is seperate from the crappy TV series, it might be okay. It would be especially cool if Bale was the Terminator in this one, but looks like he is just going to John Conner.

Maybe since they don't have Arnie, they could get Robert Patrick to play the terminator.

Who cares about the lame ass TV show? They lost me with the title: "Sarah Conner Chronicles". It's forgettable Terminator EU. Ignore it and move on.

T3 wasn't all that great, but I think the franchise has a lot of potential. I find it ironic that they get a chance to one-up the Matrix, the same franchise who ripped them off, by actually doing the war against the machines correctly. If the Matrix sequels hadn't sucked as bad as they did I highly doubt that the next T-Trilogy would have been greenlit.

So you believe that this projected wouldn't be in production if the Matrix sequels* had been, at least creatively, a lot better? That's interesting. You don't think the money and the possibility of the worldwide box office surrounding this film had anything to do with it?

*My Opinion: Reloaded was much, much better than the original film.

I think that there is a widespread belief that the Matrix sequels dropped the ball on what was a very promising story. I actually liked the first half or so of Reloaded, to be honest, but the third act went to sht and Revolutions was just plain pathetic. I think the guys behind the new Terminator trilogy are banking on the fact they can do a better humans vs. machines war than the Matrix did. It's not like they'll have to try very hard to do so.

He plays a Romulan named Nero.

Wow. I completely threw that out there without checking the complete cast of the new Trek movie. Maybe I should guess at some lottery numbers too.

While not big news, I read earlier on mania.com that "Salvation" has been dropped from the title.

It's now just "Terminator: The Future Begins".

I'd post a link, but... eh. I'm feeling too lazy right now. :P

Huh? As far as I know, it's simply untitled, though I did hear that they're contemplating Terminator: The Return of the Terminator*. Personally, I prefer calling this first installment in the new trilogy, The Future Begins, and then the third and final film, Salvation.

*CHUD.com came out with that title. God, I hope for the sake of McG that's just their idea of a joke.
