ACHERON
The Acheron is located in the Epirus region of northwest Greece. Acheron translates as the "river of woe" and it was believed to be a branch of the underworld river Styx over which in ancient Greek mythology Charon ferried the newly dead souls across into Hades.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acheron

CAEDUS
Latin word meaning, or referring to: to fall, kill
http://catholic.archives.nd.edu/cgi-bin/lo...pl?latin=Caedus

JUDICAR
Latin word meaning or referring to: investigation, judgement, decision
http://www.archives....l?latin=judicar

PAXIS
Paxis, possibly an alteration of the name PAXI:
Paxi (Greek: Παξοί, pronounced Paksi though more commonly called "Paxos" in English ) is the smallest of the Ionian Islands (the Heptanese). In fact in Greek it is a plural form and it refers to a complex of islands, the largest of which are Paxi and Antipaxi (a smaller nearby island famous for its wine, which is unfortunately almost impossible to purchase in shops or tavernas, and two of the finest sandy beaches in the Ionian Sea). In Greek mythology Poseidon created the island by striking Corfu with his trident, so that he and wife Amphitrite could have some peace and quiet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paxi
Also contains the world AXIS:
Referring to the 'central point' in mathematics, and/or to the Axis alliances of WWII

TARAL
No idea

And since I'm sure he won't be straight out killed right away, one of those names is going to follow the readers for quite some time.

Too much Latin for a galaxy long time ago far far away IMO.

The Greek and Latin based submissions aren't bad {if you really think they are too much you might want to chase those witches out of Endor :) } you can tell some genuine thought went into the first three. Not quite sure about Paxis, could be some mythological context Im unaware of - or it simply sounds & looks neat.

As for the Darth Taral submission... the only thing that I could dig up was that it's an Indian name for a boy meaning honeybee :hmm:

A few folks from Nightly submitted name ideas - hopefully they'll stop by and clue us in as to whether their submission was picked for the vote. Or failing that - tell us what their submission was...

I read Acheron was used in the Alien movies. The planet found by the Nostromo was later given the name Acheron.

I went with Acheron. Looking it up later, I found that it's the River of Sorrow or something, which makes enough sense to me.

I went with Judicar as Jacen would probably pick something stupid like that, believing he's being just.

None of them are real winners.

Judicar was my second choice. I strayed from it after initially picking it just because of it starting with a J, like Jacen. Just seemed a bit much for me, though I had similar reasoning to yours. I'll be fine if either Acheron or Judicar wins (really any of them since its such a small thing, but you know :P) because both seem a step above the others to me.

Should've picked Taral...it spells La Rat backwards. That sounds like Jacen.

Caedus is Latin and is the singular masculine form of the word meaning cutting down, killing, slaughter or referring to persons slain; blood shed in slaughter which would be appropriate is Jacen's sacrifice ends up being cold blooded murder.

And its pronounced Kai-dus

Also, their is no actual Sith language so any word can be retconned into meaning something in the Sith language so ignore the Taral definion.

Cat can be Sith for dog in the Star Wars EU. Caedus can be Sith for whatever fits Jacen the best.

Exhibit A of why fans shouldn't pick characters' Sith names.

I dunno...I don't think you'll find anyone more down on the EU than me (I've completely sworn off anything that happened after Vision of the Future), and I honestly don't think Acheron and Caedus are that bad. I actually think they sound kinda cool.

But I guess you can put me back on the hate bandwagon if any of the latter three are chosen.

Those names are all complete bullsh*t. Mine was the best: Darth Validus (Validus being Latin for strong/mighty/powerful).

If I had to go with any of those, I'd have to settle for Darth Paxis. Acheron sounds too long, Judicar sounds stupid, Taral sounds gay, Caedus sounds too much like "Cadence." Paxis at least has to do with the reason he'd be going Sith for: to attain peace.

If they were going to choose such a gay Sith name, they should have just gone with Darth Doogie.

I just stopped by DarthWho.com - they're making us wait to find out in the next book { Sacrifice - (also the next hardcover)}. Barnes & Noble currently lists it as a May 29 release.

I wonder if anyone is going to leak the new name...
