My name isn't Frank. It's Jack Bauer.'

Holy. Ladies and Gents, 24 is back! What a premiere! It also makes a strong impression as probably one of the shows best ever. Martha Logan ( Jean Smart) rocks. She's gonna be a hell of a character to watch...... How freakin awesome was it that Jack made his way to the scene of the crime.. ' start at the beginning' as he said. Don't trust Chloe's new sleeping partner " Spenser' or whatever his name is, i'm getting the feeling he's another mole. And it was clear from Season 4 and from here, that Cummings was up to no good. Also what about Audrey? She's still kinda a suspicious in my book, it was Walt Cummnings who briefed Audrey telling her the focus was 'Security is top concern.' Not Palmer's assassination....

I started to believe a guy like me could get a second chance. Jack

I think David was killed because of something he was about to tell me. Martha Logan

Palmer was my primary target, They only cared about Palmer. The others were just a diversion to set you up, make it look like you did it. Palmer's assassin

Whatever evidence they showed you against me has been fabricated. I served your brother for years. I would gladly give me life for his. He was my friend. Jack
Tank
24 has a reverse Star Trek thing going on. All good Trek films are even numbered, all odd numbered 24 seasons are good-- the others not so much!

I loved season 3 of 24, but last year was a big disapointment. But the stuff in the first two hours was pretty hardcore. They amped it up!
ShadowDog
I agree! What a fantastic first two hours! I'm definitely hooked. >:-P~~~~~~~~~~~ I really loved it when Jack busted a cap in the head of Palmer's killer. ROTF As soon as the man admitted to personally pulling the trigger on Palmer, Jack got this look on his face and you KNEW what was going to happen. biggrin.gif

By the way, some of the younger 24 fans may not realize this, but Logan's wife is a homage to Martha Mitchell, the wife of Nixon's Attorney General. She was nicknamed the "Mouth of the South" and was as crazy as Martha Logan was depicted last night. And get this, the "Martha Mitchell effect," when a psychiatrist mistakenly diagnoses someone's belief as a delusion, is named after her. Hmmmmmm hmmm Sound familar?
The Choc
Anyone else think that President Logan is the bad guy this season????
ShadowDog
I don't think so. He's too scared to put his shoes on without looking in them first, he'd never have the balls to hatch any evil schemes.
The Choc
Id be willing to bet he is, it makes too much sense. If he is so scared and all of that why does he so staunchly go against everyones advice when they say to postpone the treaty signing?

Basically my theory is this, Logan doesnt want the treaty signed, but he wants the public to think he wants the treaty signed. So he sets this terror opp up. Palmer finds out, although he doesnt know Logan is involved. Palmer calls Logan, but Logan dismisses it saying that if there was a problem between CTU, FBI etc that they would know. Palmer insists that there is a plot and tells Logan that Jack Bauer is still alive and that he is the one man they should get in touch with to help them out, but Logan still blows Palmer off.

When Palmer persists and calls Mrs Logan, the President needs to act. He has to take Palmer out and now he knows Bauer is alive so he decides to frame Bauer.
Dom
Logan isn't behind it. He's just an idiot.
The Choc
I dunno, he seems TOO intent on that plane landing and on his wife taking that medicine.
iowahawks
I think he is intent on his wife not ruining his reputation and thinks this treaty with Russia is going to be his legacy, ie he really thinks they will back out if he postpones it. He is blinded by his want for a historical legacy. I highly doubt he is the bad guy...
Dom
Jack took a terrorist out with his ****ing cell phone. I swear he gets cooler every year.
colburn
ok i watched all of season 4....that i remember......but from what i remember, may be from a different season and im just getting confused but i thought for some reason the last season ended with jack and chase in the school building goin after a bomb and it being attached to chase's are and jack having to chop it off, then jack getting in his jeep crying then getting a call and leaving....and that was the end.....am i crazy or was this real....i watch too many shows to remember everything from all of them
ladyemmies
OMG!!!! I hate President Logan! He pisses me off so much!!!!
ladyemmies
That was season three
colburn
ok....i remember a lot of season 4 but for some reason i dont remember them fakin his death....i remember the rest of it and i even remeber logan blaming him and wanting him dead but dont remember the rest....hmmmm odd
ShadowDog
Kick ass eps tonight, but I think the ending just now was a little limp. They can't all be "OMG!!!" endings every week so maybe that's all it is. But after a four hour premiere event I was expecting a little more Oooomph at the ending.

Kick ass though. And agreed about Jack getting cooler every year. biggrin.gif
Jacen123
Another great two episodes. I'll agree that the ending fell a bit limp, but that's really just because they showed that damn scene in the preview, so you knew it had to happen. Otherwise, great episodes.
EsteemedScholarJackBauer
Just keeps on getting better- the yellow tie man ' sleeper' was obvious as seen from movies such as 'Executive Decesion' and real life events. It's gonna be interesting to see whether Jack brings up the leaking of his name inside the airport to CTU. And I think Mrs. Logan is a step ahead of Mr. Cummings, i think she's using this as a trap to catch him or whoever, remember they did have a good relationship. What else is in Bauer's bag? Could there be another hacksaw?
DarthAl
Did we ever find out what happened to Air Force One? That president was still alive but "incapacitated" so Logan as VP had to be sworn in. Yet, they never said if the president died or was just in acoma.

Anyway, great four-hour premiere!! The main thing i'm wondering is will the Chinese want Jack once they find out he is actually alive. I'm sure his name will get out eventually and the Chinese who wanted him are bound to find out.

Interesting theory Choc; can't imagine Logan is clever enough to hatch a scheme like that but who knows. I hope they don't try to include soooooo many plot points and terrorists actions like last season. Too many things went on that couldn't possibly happen in a 24 hour period.
Still some of the best drama on TV!!
Tank
Logan is a *****, no way he's involved.

The guy hanging out with the video screens (90's TV Vam,pire detective Nick Knight!) will be the bad gur behind the curtians until mid-season when we find out who he's working for.

Sadly, that bit of 24 has gone the way of a CTU Mole and Kim in danger-- something they just keep doing again and again. The bad guy is ALWAYS some finger tapping grump who makes calls and watches screens. They get close to him mid season, only to find out he works for somebody else!

Onw bit of coolness, i noticed int he credits that Manny Coto is a producer/writer for the show. That is nothing but good news!
DarthAl
Don't be so sure Tank. Yes, i know that the first few "hours" of the show are pure exposition, however, i suspect that this time there will be NO mole at CTU. Its already been revealed that Kummings the pres. advisor is pulling the strings for the Russians. I hope that's the last mole we'll have to worry about.

The thing that intrigues me is Jack's role in this whole thing. THe guys a civilian yet it looks like everyone is listening to his every word. Looks like rougue Jack is back.

BTW, Who the hell is Manny Coto.?
Tank
Manny Coto is the man that WOULD have saved Star Trek had he gotten the job as show runner of Enterprise before it's final season.
Thomas Alan
Yeah, I noticed Manny Coto's billing. He's a good addition for any series.

Also, on the "Buffy watch" front David "They Got the Mustard Out!" Fury is another co-executive producer. He's a pretty good workhorse writer, but nothing special.

And Jeff Kober, who played Rack in Season 6 of Buffy was President Palmer's assassin.

Can't say I agree with that. I much preferred last season to the 3rd season.
EwoksSuck
I think the Mole in CTU is Chloe's new boyfriend. The jerk that works for the President is involved of course as well.
Thomas Alan
BTW, my thoughts on the eps:

Loved the first two hours. Kind've lukewarm on the second two.
iowahawks
Seriously the mole is worn out, you think they would have fixed their background check by now, but thats assuming their is another this season, which I'm not entirely onboard with. I agree with SOL on both of his posts, I liked Season 4 better than 3, and thought the second hour yesterday was pretty weak.
jesseclausner
I need some help. There was a trailer for 24 season five on the night it aired and there was only music in the trailer. I believed it aired on Fox. What i wanted to know is if anyone knew the name of the song that was playing through the trailer?
Decepticon
it would have been cool if they went for a main plot OTHER than a major terrorist threat. For example, I thought most of this season would be about Jack trying to hide the fact that he's alive, or escaping people who are trying to kill him. Wouldn't that have been better? But oh no, already 4 hours in and everyone knows he's alive.
DarthAl
I like your Idea Deception.!! smile.gif

THe thing i dread most is that this season will be like last season with one terrorist threat being uncovered by CTU leading right into another more complex and deadly terrorist threat. sad.gif
Didn't really care for that kind of story line hope we don't get more of the same this time.
Thomas Alan
You're watching the wrong show then dude. That's every season.
Tank
people...

Counter TERRORISM Unit

It's the core of the show.
jesseclausner
Guess no one know!
Thomas Alan
Getting back onto the actual show. Was anyone else disappointed by how cheaply Jack got out of airport situation? He repeated the flanking position line three times and was totally overdoing it by the last one. But no one notices. Not not the terrorists, not the CTU people, just poor little Sam who needs a cheap way to establish his credits as a smart guy.

I mean, the duress code couldn't have been more obvious if he'd said "It's an ap-tray" while winking at the cell phone.
ShadowDog
I hear what you're saying. The third time was overdone. If they didn't get it the first two times they sure as hell weren't going to figure out his old code with less than 60 seconds to go. Also, the big question I had was this: Okay, someone got close so Jack had to cut his call off. But 20 minutes? That's a long time to be waiting for a guard to move on. Especially since they had to know he was up in the ceiling so how close could a guard get?

On the other hand, redundancy IS a part of combat tactics. My father was a fire control officer in the Navy and they always repeated everything at least three times. When lives are at stake you take NO chances on miscommunications or mishearing things. The simplest misunderstanding can cost lives. So maybe this is just a case of us civilians not being used to their procedures. What sounds funky to us might be SOP to them.

And "flanker 2" positon must have been something normal to say beyond being a duress code because Curtis obviously didn't have a problem with Jack saying it.

Actually, I think they kinda did a good job with it, because even though it seemed Curtis was really going to the other location (which he did obviously) right before they were about to detonate, I *honestly* thought that Curtis really DID understand the "flank2" and was going to come out of the original planned entrance. Maybe I was the only one that thought that? shrug

On the Pres Logan piece: I believe the only reason he's not listening to advice is because he's not the "real" president, in the sense he was only sworn in because the elected Pres was incapacitated, and he NEEDED this treaty to show he really can be a good Prez. Especially since he had been living in Palmer's shadow from the last crisis.

Oh, and I have to bring up what I've done every season since Season 2: WHY is the Prez NEVER in the White House? I swear it has to be because Fox didn't get rights to setup a mock West Wing. This is just too weird that EVERY single year the Prez is always NOT in D.C.
EwoksSuck
It's not that unrealistic. Bush is never in DC. He's always at the "ranch" on vacation. laugh
iowahawks
Yeah plus it is only one day, and weren't they at the White House in Season 4, they just go into the Bunker thing...
Otanku
my point is I think it's production related. Either they've chosen not to use a mock White House, or maybe couldn't get "rights" to do so.

No exactly true. Season 1 centered around the attempt on Palmer's life. Season 2 was about a nuclear bomb being set off in L.A. Season 3 was about a virus Terrorists were trying to release in L.A. Last season (4) there was one threat after another rather than one central threat that CTU was trying to prevent. THAT was my point!!
Tank
Terrorists were after Palmer, and terrorists set off the bomb. the show is always aabout terrorism.

And i agree the FLANK position line was over done. I got it the first time right off the bat, but i guess somebody thought the audience wasn't as fast.

Its in the public domain, anyone has the right to use the White House, the Capitol, etc. I think it is more the fact that they have to have it near California seeing how that is where they always focus on, which irks me somewhat. And they were at the White House in Season 4, especially the scene where he takes power, just before he goes in the bunker.
Thomas Alan

Did it?

As I recall, the attempt on Palmer's life became almost incidental. The true goal of that season was to free Dennis Hopper.

Each season was like that. The bomb went off hours before the finale in season 2. And don't even get me started on the insane plot-twists of Season 3 (the weakest season of the series).
Thomas Alan
BTW, if we're looking to expand the franchise forums, the admins might want to consider this show.
ShadowDog
^ Hear hear.

People can nitpick if they want to but, as already mentioned, the T stands for Terrorism so that's what the show is going to be about.

PS. I think, in retrospect, that Season 1 was the worst of the lot. It was awesome at the time, but looking back it's kinda weak. For instance, Nina was the WORST mole in recorded history. I've got a list of about 50 retarded things she did before the writers realized she was a mole and she was even in two places at once at one point (she was having coffee with Tony at the same time she was supposed to be slitting the mini mole's throat or wrist or whatever it was).
Garet Jax
Actually, Season 3 was among the best. Season 2 was the worst with Kim running around in the woods.
iowahawks
Yeah Season 2 was the worst, though the first half was very strong, the weaker second half, combined with the ridiculous Kim storyline weighed it down considerably.
Tank
Agreed. I loved 3.
Thomas Alan
I understand the dislike of the Kim storyline from Season 2. But I hated the Sherry Palmer storyline from Season 3 even more. And the whole first half of the season was just plain ridiculous.
ShadowDog
So how long do you guys think Palmer's brother has to live? I'm guessing he gets whacked either tonight or next week in one of those OMG!!!! moments. biggrin.gif

I actually (and this was a little dumb on my part I admit because he didn't have to) thought that the White House mole was gonna kill the First Lady. THAT would have been awesome. LOL
